| GROWL NEWS GROWL is happy to announce that two loads of furkids were moved to safety so far during the month of November. The first group of GrowlKids got a ride from two GROWL volunteers all the way from South Carolina to New Jersey... and we owe a HUGE thank you to Diana and Leslie for getting them all the way up to their rescue safely. Diana and Leslie have continuously gone above and beyond to help shelter pets and on behalf of GROWL and the GrowlKids we thank them and love them with all our hearts! The first group of GrowlKids to get a ride were a very special bunch! They were pulled out of the shelter at the last minute and put into a foster home for quarantine. During that time most of them broke with kennel cough. Most of them recovered quickly but two puppies struggled and even with treatment it turned into pneumonia. All of the puppies except one recovered quickly and were able to jump aboard the ride to New Jersey and find their forever homes! The last pup is still in foster recovering and her future forever family is excited to meet her once she gets approval from the vet to move up north. We thank foster mommy, Audrey, for all her love and caring for these puppies while they were sick... we know it was not an easy few weeks! The second load of dogs and pups who went up to New Jersey went on a van run. We are so excited that all these babies got a second chance and were getting to meet their new families or find forever families in other rescues! Meet some of the furkids who got to hop aboard the van and head up north. BABY: One of GROWL's drivers in Charlotte, NC pulled Baby out of the shelter the night before she was to be euthanized. Baby had to get out of the shelter because she had a cough so she was not eligible to go to the adoption floor. Baby came down to Spartanburg, SC and was put into boarding until a rescue had an opening for her. Baby is now at a new rescue in NJ and knows her forever family will be coming to meet her soon! ROCKY AND BENTLEY: Rocky and Bentley were both owner surrenders at the Greenville shelter. They were both to be euthanized on the same day but when one of Greenville's dedicated employees contacted us, we knew we were their only way out of the shelter alive. Rocky and Bentley went into boarding (where they met and played with Baby) and a rescue in PA took them in. They hopped aboard a van and they are now getting spoiled at their new rescue while waiting to find their forever homes! SALLY: Such a sweet young girl who has had a rough start! Sally is a brown/white cocker who is less than a year old. She also came from the Greenville shelter. Sally was a little shy when meeting a stranger but warms up very quickly. Sally was loved and spoiled in a foster home until she jumped aboard the van to freedom to her new rescue in NJ. JAN: Jan is a precious 4 month old shepherd baby with some of the biggest ears I have ever seen! She was out of time at a shelter in SC so GROWL pulled her out where she went into a foster home with Sally. She is now at the rescue with Sally and we know a family will decide to adopt her very soon! THE 8 MUNCHKINS: GROWL was contacted by a lady in SC. Her home was about to be foreclosed on and she did not want to take her litter of pups to the shelter. This lady had taken in many strays over the years and did not know what to do so we offered to take her pups. All 8 lab puppies hopped aboard with the rest of the gang and headed up north to meet their forever families! GROWL wants to thank everyone who has been so generous and giving towards the GrowlKids in the past year! There is no way we would have been able to see so many shelter babies go to new homes without the help of every person involved! Between the drivers, fosters, donors, event volunteers and shelter workers many GrowlKids are now safe and we thank each of you for being a link to their new lives! GROWL recently got a call from a man in NJ who wanted to surrender his dog because they had a new baby and no longer wanted Rexi the lab to live inside. When Dawn met the owner, Rexi was brought on a chain. We are so glad this owner knew they could no longer give her the life she deserves. This was a very bothersome case because this dog had been adopted out by a different rescue in NJ but he was not able to get in touch with them. GROWL took this baby and found a spot for her in another rescue where she was transferred to until her new forever home is found! GROWL also took in a 10 year old shih tzu who was dumped at a boarding facility in New York. Cola only has one eye but has a wonderful personality and is enjoying life being fostered at Dawn's house but she is in urgent need of finding her new forever home or another rescue to take this sweet girl in. GROWL lost a VERY special boy on September 30, 2008. Justice was taken to the Greenville, SC shelter as a stray. GROWL was contacted by Taryn and asked if we could take him into our rescue. Justice went to a foster home where he was able to do as he pleased and be loved. He always loved to roam around the yard but more than anything he loved to be near people and be loved on and to lay by the front door on his bed. Justice will be missed so much but will be loved forever. We will see you at the rainbow bridge sweet boy! This is a video of Justice after getting out of the shelter... All GrowlKids are now adopted with a free month of ShelterCare pet insurance. We encourage all adoptors to continue providing insurance for your beloved pet! GROWL is also thrilled that we were able to help eight Jack Russells get out of breeding, off chains and into new homes. Dawn was contacted about a breeder who had passed away. Her poor dogs whose entire existence was based on breeding, were still stuck out on chains. All eight Jack Russells were taken to the vets and treated for a variety of issues and then taken to other rescues or adopted into new homes. There is one male still available for adoption, if you are interested in making him a permanent part of your family and loving him forever then please contact us. RECENT SPECIAL NEEDS GROWLKIDS: We have been lucky enough to rescue some very special shelter pets who otherwise would not have stood a chance. Although we love all the GrowlKids who come into our rescue, there are some special pets with special needs who just steal our hearts. OPIE: Opie is a one eyed chihuahua who was moments away from being euthanized in Greenville, SC. He has such an amazing personality, he reminds us of how many wonderful pets turn into the most urgent victims on the euthanasia lists. Opie is in a rescue in New York waiting for his new family to find him! GROWL is very happy to say that Maddie, our pet of the month for August, is now adopted and in her forever home. She has a fur- brother named Rusty (a Golden Retriever) and is now a part of a family. She has been through so much and is a very special girl so we thank her new family for choosing her as their newest family member. She had a litter of pups in the shelter and then had to be treated for heartworms. Congratulations to Maddie (now named Bella) and her new family! GROWL is so excited that we are now able to have Kuranda dog beds donated towards the animals in our program. If you would like to donate a comfortable, chew resistant bed, please click the link at theleft of the page. GROWL was contacted about a cat rescue in Israel who desperately needs help. This cat rescue is doing all they can to control the cat population and keep cats healthy. As we all know, this is an ongoing job. This rescue educates the public about the need for sterilizing your pet and also humane animal treatment. We encourage you to look at their website (look for the link for English, unless you are fluent in Hebrew) and see the impressive work these devoted people do to help those who can't help themselves. This devoted rescue has the space and manpower to make a huge difference but are in need of funds. We at GROWL are grateful to hear of those across the globe who are fighting the same fight for the animals as we do here. Click here to visit our Israeli friends. GROWL would like to introduce you to Animal Experiences in NY. They are an exotic animal rescue who have gone above and beyond to assist GROWL and all GrowlKids who have been transported up north. As GROWL and Animal Experiences have been working together, we have been able to help a wide variety of animals and educate people of all ages about animal welfare and treatment. We thank Nicole for her assistance and devotion! |
